The Center of Geographic Information Processing Salzburg (ZGIS)
located at the department of Geography, University of Salzburg, fulfils
two majors tasks: education for students and professionals in GIS,
remote sensing (RS) and spatial analysis, and research in the field
of GIS, RS and spatial analysis. The reserch area is very wide with
predominant fields of research and development in environmental applications.
ZGIS provides internationally recognized services in the field of
Geographic Information and spatial analysis. ZGIS is together with
UNIGIS Salzburg - Austrian counterpart of an international postgraduate
distance learning program - a leading developer of telelearning materials
in the field of Geographic Information and remote sensing. By combining
natural and social sciences, ZGIS and the Department of Geography
seek to expand the realm of knowledge that contributes to the ecologically
and economically sustainable use of renewable resources in natural
and cultural landscapes.
