Sights Several kinds of museums of local history present the history of the Rhön concerning the way of life, customs and the daily work of former generations (e. g. museum of local history Dermbach, museum village Fladungen, museum-train). Otherwise, there are many museums, which document natural aspects in a descriptive way (nature trail of birds, nature trail of geology, museum of local history and the like). In the Rhön there are also cultural and natural monuments to discover like old castles and cities. Natural monuments are - e. g. the Rotes Moor (red bog) and the Schwarzes Moor (black bog), lakes - e. g. the Silbersee and the Schönsee, block areas (basalt) and quarries - e. g. the Schafstein and the Steinerne Haus. The sports- and leisure-sector offers extensive opportunities, like hiking, biking, watersports many winter activities, e. g. cross-country skiing, downhill and snowboarding and last but not least soaring at the Wasserkuppe.
